A leading sweet manufacturer has been sentenced after part of a worker’s finger was cut off at a Blackpool factory.
The employee at the sweet manufacturer was trying to remove a blockage in one of the sweet-making machines when his left hand was pulled in, severing his index finger to the top knuckle.
The company, which produces liquorice allsorts and sherbet fountains among other sweets, was prosecuted following an investigation into the incident. It found the worker had been able to reach the rotating parts in the machine while the power was still on.
The 25-year-old from Blackpool was operating the machine when it became blocked. He removed the guard to clear the blockage when the rotating wheels that flatten the sweet mixture caught his hand.

A waste and recycling company has been prosecuted for safety failings after a worker was seriously injured when a vehicle reversed into him.
The 25-year-old, who has asked not be named, was working in a sorting shed at the company when the incident occurred.
He was sorting recyclable material by hand from the area where dry waste was deposited. A telescopic materials handler was being operated close by. As the driver of the vehicle carried out his operations, he reversed into the area where the other employee was working. The vehicle struck the employee and knocked him to the ground.

A pensioner has brought a personal injury claim against a bus company in the West Midlands.
The elderly man was on his way home from visiting friends, when the number 32 bus he was travelling on, collided into a taxi that was stationary at a set of traffic lights.
The claimant stated; "It was horrific...the bus driver left the bus without checking to see that any of the passengers were unharmed and he just began shouting at the taxi driver who we could clearly see was shocked and disturbed."
Police reports show that CCTV footage from the bus and the high road prove that the bus driver was negligent and was not not driving with due care and attention.

A mother of three has made a personal injury claim against her employer due to sustaining severe injuries, and being left with a permanent scar that measured almost half a meter in length.
The woman, who had worked as an employee for a well known food company for almost 10 years, stated, “My colleagues and I are all aware that the company cuts back on costs of food trolleys by refurbishing major competitors faulty and disposed of equipment...Its common knowledge...although we think it’s wrong how they do it, we have no say.”
It was also explained that prior to this accident numerous customers and employees had previously been injured due to the sharp defective pieces of metal that regularly stuck out of these trolleys as they were rarely sanded down sufficiently.
